My enthusiasm for self-publishing, despite its sniff of vanity productions, began in a round-about way—my slide collection was suffering by the stresses of time. (Ektachrome, in particular, does not have much archival endurance.) In an attempt to stem the deterioration, I began digitalizing my collection. It was to be a long-term project and like all things electronic, I and my equipment slowly improved—so much so that, like painting the Forth Bridge, starting again would make sense. Instead, I discovered “photobooks” and put together five collections based on themes that have, over the years, been the basis of my ideas about buildings and their meaning for us.
